BUYING AT AUCTION
Leonard Auction is dedicated to providing the best possible experience for buyers. From our spacious auction house and detailed catalogs to various bidding options, we strive to enable buyers to easily obtain the items they desire.
Leonard Auction holds public previews before each auction. Additionally, we open our doors early on the day of the auction for last minute viewing. The preview periods allow you to personally inspect each and every item for sale. This is also a time to ask questions of our staff members regarding the auction or a particular item.
Leonard Auction has a full color catalog online for each auction at least a week prior to the sale date. The catalog contains all pertinent information about the sale and a detailed listing, with photographs or every item offered for sale. Printed copies of the catalog are available for purchase at the auction house.
General Auction Information:
Live Bidding: The most exciting way to bid in one of our auctions is to attend the sale in person and bid live. When you enter the auction house on the day of sale, simply register at the front desk with photo identification. You will receive a bid number that will allow you to bid on any item in the sale.
If you are unable to attend the auction in person, you may fill out our Absentee Bid Form and Leonard Auction will bid competitively on your behalf.
If you are unable to attend the auction in person, you may request a phone bid. During the auction, a Leonard Auction representative will call you and place bids at your discretion. In general phone bids are reserved for those items with an estimate of at least $500.
All of our auctions are internet enabled through ProxiBid, Live Auctioneers or Invaluable. As a registered internet bidder, you may leave an absentee bid prior to the auction, or participate live as the auction occurs.

Auction Buying FAQ:
Where can I get an auction catalog?
Leonard Auction offers a fully illustrated catalog that may be purchased at the auction house for a nominal cost. Additionally, our website features a full color online catalog that is constantly updated before each auction.
Can I see the items prior to the auction?
Yes, all of the items for the upcoming auction are on display and available for inspection. We highly recommend that you view pieces in-person prior to placing any bids. The public preview is generally open Friday and Saturday prior to the auction as well as on auction day.
Is there an admission fee to attend the preview or auction?
No, we do not charge an admission fee for either the preview or the auction itself. We do reserve the right to refuse admittance to either the preview or the auction.
What is a “Condition Report”?
Leonard Auction provides an opinion of the condition of each lot that is stated in a Condition Report. These statements are available on the online catalog and printouts available at the auction house. While we make every effort to accurately describe items, please note that items are Sold As-Is, Where-Is with all faults. We highly recommend that you view pieces in-person prior to placing any bids.
What do I need to register for the auction?
New bidders will need a driver’s license or state ID to register for the auction. We reserve the right to require a credit card be placed on file prior to registration.
Where does the bidding start?
As a general rule, Leonard Auction will open the bidding at 1/2 the low estimate. In some select cases bidding may open lower and in many cases bidding will open higher depending on pre-auction bidding activity.
Where do you start the bidding if I leave an absentee bid?
If there is no pre-auction bidding activity, the absentee bid will open at 1/2 of the low estimate. If we have pre-auction bidding activity, the absentee bid will open at one bid above the highest pre-auction bid.
Can I return an item that I purchased at auction?
No, all auction sales are final and we do not accept returns. We are happy to re-offer an item purchased from auction for a reduced commission provided the item was purchased for $200 or more.
